The Russian Academy of Sciences allowed damage to Earth’s satellites by the asteroid Apophis

In the next 100 years, the Earth is not threatened by a collision with asteroids that have already been discovered by scientists, but Apophis is capable of damaging geostationary satellites. Nathan Eismont, a leading researcher at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, spoke about this for the Science and Technology program, aired on the REN TV channel.

He noted that in recent years, the asteroid danger has been remembered, but serious progress has also been made in the study of these celestial bodies. Eismont noted that Apophis will fly close to Earth in 2029.

“It’s not very big, but it’s still big enough to cause a global catastrophe if it hit the Earth. In 2004, when it was discovered, according to those measurements, it was established that it would not collide soon – in 2036, ”the scientist continued.

The concerns raised have been positive, with financial resources directed towards building networks to detect dangerous asteroids, Eismont said.

It became clear that in 2029 Apophis will fly at a distance of 30 thousand km from the Earth, without colliding with the planet. However, it can damage satellites, the specialist admitted.

The new TV show “Science and Technology” on the REN TV channel will talk about space research and nanotechnology, innovations in the energy and transport sectors. Viewers will also be shown things that recently seemed fantastic.

Earlier Wednesday, Alexander Chernenko, a senior researcher at the Institute of Solid State Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, noted the importance of the transfer, saying that it “will give people information, explain and interest.”

The program with TV presenter Mikhail Borzenkov will be aired every Saturday on REN TV at exactly noon. The premiere will take place on January 22.
