The risk of premature death is indicated by a significant difference between the real age of a person and the biological age of the retina of his eyes. This conclusion was made by Chinese scientists, the results of their work were published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology.
In the course of the study, which has been conducted since 2006, experts studied the images of the fundus of the eye of about 47 thousand people aged 40 to 69 years. Data processing was carried out using machine learning algorithms.
It turned out that if the age of the retina was a year older than the age of a person, the risk of death in the next 11 years increased by 2-3%.
About 5% of the volunteers died during the study period. About 55% of them died due to oncology, the death of the rest of the participants was associated with other causes.
The scientists concluded that the difference in the state of the retina and the biological age of a person can be a potential biomarker of aging.
January 1, scientists from Harvard University said that eating dark chocolate will help overcome the genetic predisposition to early death. So, due to the high content of antioxidants and minerals, dark chocolate improves blood pressure and can prevent the development of oncology and cardiovascular diseases.
