Roskomnadzor sent a letter to the YouTube video hosting administration demanding that all restrictions be lifted on the official channels of the Zemlyane music group and the Russkoye Radio radio station. On Monday, January 24, the press service of the department reports.
Earlier, the YouTube administration indicated copyright infringement as the reason for the introduction of restrictive measures against Russian channels. As the press service of Roskomnadzor noted, Russkoye Radio provided the video hosting with all the necessary documents confirming the rights to audiovisual materials posted on its YouTube channel. In this regard, the department is waiting for official explanations from the YouTube administration regarding the current situation.
“Roskomnadzor believes that such actions on the part of the YouTube video hosting administration violate the key principles of the free distribution of information, unhindered access to it, and are an act of censorship, which, according to the Russian Constitution, is prohibited,” the message says.
Last September, RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan announced that YouTube had deleted the RT DE and Der Fehlende Part (DFP) channels without the possibility of recovery. The video hosting explained the removal as a violation of the terms of use of the platform in connection with the publication of content related to the coronavirus pandemic. Simonyan called the voiced reasons far-fetched.
Also in October, RT DE filed a petition with the court for a temporary ban against blocking and strikes against channels by YouTube.
But on December 16, YouTube also blocked their new channel RT DE – RT auf Sendung. At that time, the channel was broadcasting live. As RT recalled, the RT DE channel was removed from YouTube in September. And if the channel has been deleted, then its owner cannot use, own or create any other YouTube channels.
