COVID-19 proposed to be treated with electrical brain stimulation

A group of scientists from the United States has collected and systematized all available information about the possibilities of modern methods of transcranial (conducted without surgical intervention through the surface of the head) electrical and magnetic brain stimulation that can be used to combat COVID-19. The results of the study show that exposing the brain to a magnetic field or electric current makes it possible to alleviate the course of a coronavirus infection in the acute stage, to minimize functional disorders that appear immediately after it, to speed up rehabilitation after an illness, and to cure the unpleasant neurological and psychological consequences of coronavirus infection.

According to American scientists, at the acute stage of COVID-19, transcranial brain stimulation can enhance the body’s immune response and suppress acute neuroinflammation, which is often caused by coronavirus. Also, the effect on the nervous system can improve the functioning of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems.

As stated in the article, another possible application of brain stimulation in the acute phase of infection is the fight against neurological symptoms. These include, for example, headache, dizziness, loss of smell and taste, which can be treated by acting on the brain.

The effect of coronavirus infection on the nervous system is also partly associated with the appearance of respiratory failure, therefore, by stimulating the brain, it is possible to alleviate the condition of patients connected to ventilators. At the same time, in such patients, due to connection to the artificial respiration system, the risk of deadly thrombosis increases, which can also be minimized by influencing the nervous system through the brain.
