TikTokerin sends a “terrible” portrait to the Queen – and receives letters of thanks back

A young woman drew a picture of the late Prince Philip – with which she, however, was not satisfied. The Queen saw it differently and sent a nice message.

The young TikToker Honor Morrison from Hertfortshire, England, is artistically gifted. She paints and draws often and a lot – and well. On her TikTok channel, she shares the process and the results with her followers, always with a wink. But one project, at least the young woman felt, went quite wrong: after Prince Philip’s death, she had seen photos and videos of the 99-year-old all over the news and decided to paint a portrait of him herself. But that didn’t quite work out.

Honor completed the picture and Prince Philip is clearly recognizable on it, but after her work stood in the living room for a day, she put it aside again. It was “too scary” and overall “pretty terrible”, judged the hobby artist self-critically. In addition, she has the feeling of being “observed” by the portrait. But what to do with it? Honor had an idea.

She painted Prince Philip, but found the picture “too scary”

She didn’t want to just throw her work away. And so she gave her followers at TikTok a task: 1000 Likes – and she would send the portrait to the Queen personally. How seriously this was meant cannot be said in retrospect, but after 28,000 likes, Honor had no other choice. She wrote a nice letter and sent the picture off. That should be the end of the matter for her.

But with the British Queen, the young woman apparently found exactly the right audience for her work. Because last week she got mail – from Buckingham Palace. “The Queen wishes me to write to you, thanking you very much, for your kind condolences and the charming portrait of Her Majesty’s beloved husband, the Duke of Edinburgh,” read there. Honor was touched.

Even if the action was initially meant to be humorous, the death of Prince Philip moved the young Englishwoman very much. And the Queen’s answer even more. “I feel really honored and grateful,” said Honor in another TikTok video. “It’s very touching, I didn’t expect a reaction at all. I was very surprised. This is one of those things that I will keep forever and show my grandchildren at some point.”
