Sony bought developer Halo and Destiny for $ 3.6 billion

The Japanese company Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) bought Bungie, the American studio behind the Halo and Destiny series of games, for $3.6 billion. The corresponding statement was published on January 31 on the SIE website.

“We are pleased to announce that Sony Interactive Entertainment has entered into an agreement to acquire Bungie , bringing one of the world’s best development studios to the PlayStation family,” it said in a statement.

It is noted that Bungie will retain the ability to publish games on different platforms, and will also enjoy “creative freedom.”

Released by Bungie in the fall of 2001, the Halo action-fiction media franchise set a new direction for video games. Since then, it has maintained its leadership in a number of key technology metrics, including special effects.

The game takes place in the 24th century, its plot is based on the opposition of a small unit of earthlings to cruel aliens from outer space, who set the goal of destroying humanity.

In January, Microsoft Corporation announced the purchase of Activision Blizzard, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, naming the deal at $68.7 billion. It is planned to close it within the next year. After that, users will be offered many Activision Blizzard games as part of the Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass subscriptions.

As noted by Russian video blogger and gadget reviewer Wylsacom, the purchase could be “a step in some big strategy” for Microsoft.
