Putin invited the Security Council to discuss improving the protection of personal data

On Wednesday, February 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin, at an operational meeting with members of the Security Council, proposed discussing improving the protection of personal data of citizens of the Russian Federation.

“Today we will talk about improving the protection of personal data of citizens of the Russian Federation in the course of introducing digital technologies,” he said.

The Russian leader noted that the authorities are constantly dealing with this topic at different levels.

“It is directly related to the introduction of modern technologies and related sometimes difficult phenomena that must be resolved in a timely manner in terms of ensuring the safety of individual industries and gadgets,” the president added.

On December 9, 2021, Putin said that there are too many leaks of personal data of Russians, it is necessary to take measures to ensure the rights of citizens.

As the Russian leader noted, it is necessary to explore the possibilities for developing additional regulatory measures in this area, and also to “put things in order” in the issue of surveillance of Russians, which is carried out by Internet platforms.

Protecting citizens from fraudulent schemes is one of the key priorities in the work of the authorities, the head of state stressed.

On June 11, 2021, Putin signed a law increasing fines to 50,000 rubles for disclosing personal data. It is noted that quite a lot of information falls under this definition, in particular commercial or banking secrets or communication secrets.
