Twitter launches global testing of dislike analogue

Twitter has a “downgrade” feature. About this social network informed February 6.

It is noted that at the moment you can only use the innovation in the web version, but soon it will work in mobile applications on iOS and Android.

As stated on Twitter, thanks to this feature, it will be possible to learn more about the content that the user wants to see. During its testing, the social network found that mostly users downvote offensive or inappropriate responses. At the same time, none of the users of the social network can see who lowered their rating.

There are opinions that in this way the company is trying to shift the responsibility for moderation to the users themselves. Others believe that this is a way to stop trolling and harassment.

Previously, in November 2021, YouTube stopped displaying the number of “dislikes” under all videos. The social network explained that the reasons for this decision was the desire to protect small channels from harassment and attacks due to hostility.

Video hosting co-founder Javad Karim said at the time that without public display of dislikes, YouTube would decline. He noted that the ability to easily and quickly identify bad content is an important feature of the user-generated content platform.
