Experts allowed the opening in Russia of branches of other IT companies after Apple

The example of Apple will soon be followed by all other foreign IT companies that are subject to the requirements of the “landing law”, Alexander Zhuravlev, chairman of the commission for legal support of the digital economy of the Moscow branch of the Russian Bar Association, is sure.

In an interview with Izvestia on Friday, February 4, he noted that IT giants, according to practice, are interested in doing business in a civilized manner and making money on the Russian market. The above law, according to him, opens up new opportunities, including for the companies themselves.

“For example, the availability of qualified specialists, low personal income taxes, a system of benefits and preferences for the IT industry are the opportunities that can be used, including by foreign companies, to develop their products and subsequent monetization,” he said.

Russia, as Zhuravlev noted, is not the first country to adopt a law on the localization of IT giants. Today, this is already an international practice, which is present, for example, in Australia, China, Turkey, the USA and the EU countries.

In turn, Ivan Samoylenko, managing partner of the B&C Agency, also expressed confidence that Apple, with its decision, sets an example for other IT giants, for whom it is fundamentally important to comply with the requirements of Russian law in order to avoid penalties or restrictions on work.

The American corporation, in his opinion, can now probably count on certain preferences from Russia. In addition, the demonstration of loyalty and compliance with the laws of the country gives a certain advantage in the market.

“It is possible that in the future Apple will be able to expand its presence in the sector of mobile equipment and gadgets, as well as more widely represent the equipment of its brand. Competitors should follow the example of the corporation in order to avoid claims from the FAS, Rospotrebnadzor and other state bodies of the Russian Federation, ”Samoilenko concluded.

Earlier in the day, Roskomnadzor (RKN) reported that Apple opened a branch, representative office or legal entity in Russia, the first to fulfill the requirements of the “landing law”. Prior to this, in January, the corporation, within the framework of this law, also registered a personal account on the RKN website.

The law “On the activities of foreign persons on the Internet in Russia” was adopted last summer and entered into force on January 1. According to the law, foreign firms are required to open their branches, representative offices or any other legal entity in the Russian Federation if more than 500 thousand people visit their sites per day.

Companies that refuse to comply with all requirements may, among other things, be prohibited from distributing advertising about the site or on it, receive payments, partially or completely restrict access to the resource.

The list includes 13 foreign companies: these are social networks Meta, Twitter, TikTok, Likee, Pinterest, instant messengers WhatsApp, Viber, Telegram, Discord, video conferencing and broadcast services Zoom, Twitch, Apple and Google services, including YouTube, as well as streaming audio service Spotify .
