FAS convicted Google of violating antitrust laws

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia has revealed violations of antimonopoly law in the actions of Google. We are talking about the opaque rules for blocking users on YouTube, the press service of the department reports on February 10.

“The service found that the rules related to the formation, suspension, blocking of accounts and the circulation of user content on YouTube are opaque, biased and unpredictable. This leads to sudden blocking and deletion of user accounts without warning and justification for actions, ”the FAS Telegram message says.

As emphasized in the department, such actions “infringe on the interests of users, and also limit competition in adjacent markets.”

The amount of the fine for the company will be determined during the administrative investigation.

On January 17, a court in Moscow fined Google 4 million rubles for refusing to remove prohibited information. At the same time, in December last year, the company was first imposed a turnover fine in the amount of 7.2 billion rubles for repeated failure to remove prohibited information.

On February 1, 2021, a law came into force in Russia, according to which social networks must themselves identify and block prohibited content. If it is not possible to independently assess the illegality of the content within a day, the administration of the social network must send the data to Roskomnadzor.
