Schoolchildren are currently proving that FFP2 masks are not only suitable for protecting against Covid-19: They are using the rubber bands to saw their class chairs. In future, they should pay for the damage with social work.
Just how resilient the elastic bands on FFP2 and KN95 masks are is something that students from Würzburg demonstrate. They use them to saw their plastic chairs in the classroom, reports Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR). They post their “success” on the TikTok platform, where this unusual use has become a trend.
First, the students scratch a notch on the inside of the chair and then continue until a long cut is made. They have already proven several times that this is even possible with the elastic band of a simple face mask.
The perpetrators are difficult to identify
According to the BR, two schools in Würzburg were primarily affected: 20 students from the Deutschhaus-Gymnasium were determined to be mostly eighth graders, and the Wirsberg-Gymnasium was also affected.
The resulting damage, a chair costs around 100 euros after all, cannot be sued so easily because there are usually several students who work on a chair together. Hence the plan arose to punish the perpetrators in a different way: with social work at the school.
