“Diablo” is considered to be a timelessly popular action role-playing game. But there are also other games from this genre that deserve attention. A few alternatives at a glance.
In September, the revised version of one of the most popular action role-playing games will be released: “Diablo 2: Ressurected” from Blizzard Entertainment. Hack & Slay fans are longingly waiting for the appointment. “Diablo 4” has also been announced for 2022 – but when exactly it will be released has not yet been determined.
To bridge the waiting time, we present you game alternatives that are at least as much fun as “Diablo”:
Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem
You play one of three heroes who survived the “Slaughter of Castagath”. The played hero is trained to be a soldier who is supposed to protect the people from the “supernatural”. There are plenty of those in the dark game, too. Cultists, demons and other monsters have to be defeated – and in doing so the player finds out that he can develop magic powers himself. These then need to be refined. “Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem” is available for Windows, and new content is constantly being added. So it won’t be boring.
Path of Exile
The player is on the continent “Wraeclast”, where he has to fight for bitter survival as an exile. The further he has explored the continent, the more missions are given to the player to choose from. With each new level of the game character, he develops new skills that he can specialize in an extensive talent tree. Path of Exile is free. Optionally, however, cosmetic items can be purchased for the hero – but they do not bring any playful advantage. The game was released in 2013 for Windows and MacOS and will soon have a second part.
Torchlight 1 – 3
This series of games stands out from the otherwise usually gloomy franchise looks with colorful comic graphics, but the gameplay is classic. In randomly generated levels, the player can always explore new environments. The hero has a companion who can carry items for him and sell them at a vendor if the inventory becomes too full. And when things are a little quieter, you can just go fishing. In every new part of the adventures and tasks are expanded. Part 1 and 2 are available for MacOS and Windows, Part 3 only for Windows.
Grim Dawn
In an apocalyptic fantasy world called “Cairn”, people were almost exterminated by two extraterrestrial powers – the etheric and the Cthonians – in a war. The player plays a hero who has been freed from the ethereal powers and helps the people who are still alive to fight the invaders. You have to take back what is left of the world. The game is available for Windows. It comes from the developers of “Titan Quest”, who already proved fifteen years ago that they can produce good hack and slay games.
